The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Statelessness Programme of Tilburg University are convening the first ever global forum on statelessness. The conference will take place from 15 to 17 September 2014 in The Hague, the Netherlands.
The year of 2014 marks the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the 1954 Convention Relating to the Status of Stateless Persons. Since then, there have been various initiatives to address statelessness. Therefore, it is an opportune moment to take stock of the developments and the debate on statelessness.
Keynote speakers are Volker Türk, Director of International Protection at UNHCR; Irene Khan, Director-General of the International Development Law Organization; Nils Muižnieks, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe; and Greg Constantine, award-winning photographer behind the ‘Nowhere People’ project on statelessness.
